Black Moa giving me trouble.
Hey all. Seeing as I'm only a few points away from getting the HoM rank I want, I figured I try and cap the Black Moa, but it's being a total pain. I don't belong to a guild right now and I found that all my friends in my friends list are inactive after coming back from a year-long break, so I'm having to HH it. Is it just crappy spawns or are Oni spawns and a couple of Dredge programmed to run RIGHT THROUGH the moa's area? I've made three runs so far in last few hours, all with the same result. Any tips? The Oni just pop up out of nowhere, and just add to the trouble and most of the time pop up AS I'm getting to the moa's area, and then it gets aggroed and I have to start all over since it dies .

yeah most mobs there patrol in a clockwise direction.....
best way is to start at aspenwood gate head and and clear all the oni and patrols before trying to cap him......
you can always flag h/h into approaching mobs whilst capping yourself.

Good idea already suggested just play safe a clear out most or all the patrols, I know its a long drawn out process but faster than trying the quick way a dozen times.

My brother and I did it twice in like 10 minutes tops. As said above just pull and kill the small groups until you get there. In the long run its quicker to just take out a few groups. Also while MMs are great watch the minion aggro

Yep, just clear everything out in the area (I believe there's only one group of Oni there) before aggroing it. Also be sure to flag your heroes/henchies away from the area so they don't attack the Black Moa while you're trying to charm it.
Good Luck!

Did the OP actually DO all of the lead-up quests that allow the Moa to spawn?
It should be the first thing you see. ...atleast it was right after I did all the prerequisites...

And bragging is not always the correct answer. The other posters gave tips to a player who had trouble charming the black moa. You stating that you can charm the black moa with ease does not help at all, in fact it all it does is generate conflict.

I should cap 3 more Black moas for my heroes then go to Kamadan to freak out that npc.
The one outside the sunspear HQ that tells the tale of the black moa that killed his friends.
They should update the Ai so he panics whenever a moa walks past.

In the area, up to 7 parties of 4 dredge (including the one with Mungri Magicbox) will roam in predefined patters.
And up to 3 oni spawns may be hidden in 'da bushes'.
But while those are limited to more or less small spots and predefined patrol patterns, the Black moa may appear anywhere around that basin. All times I went to catch it, I was lucky, the Black Moa appeared nearby, with no enemies around.
It's just luck, like with the White Moa.
OH, and note that the enemies around there DO NOT attack the Black Moa.
If you are not finding it, it's not because of foes killing it. It's because you didn't make all required quests.

I think this is just a case of "inexperience" Oni spawn at the same place, it's just a case of knowing where.

Oh. I made sure to do the lead-up quests for sure. It's there every time. Guess I just have crappy builds as I haven't unlocked all the skills and stuff (haven't even played through NF yet and I bought it like a year ago or so). I played a lot for three years, but spent most of my time on two characters. Never played an Ele, Rit, Sin, Para, or Derv to 20 as I don't like how they are played. Mainly just played on my War.

I did it about an hour ago with heroes and henchies. Are you starting from Fort Aspenwood gate? That's the best location to go from.
I guess I was lucky as no oni appeared, and the boss mob stayed away. Basically try to sweep the area for pop-ups and patrols. The Black Moa shouldn't move too far away from the bottom of the steps/slope from FA gate. After a few minutes you should know whether there are any patrols left or not that can cause you trouble.
After that, flag your heroes and henchies back and cap. Just be patient and don't rush until you're sure the patrols aren't an issue anymore.

Yeah, just capped mine finally. Oni did not pop up like the last five times. It would always happen that as a missed patrol would waltz right through the moa's area and then oni would pop up and I'd get overwhelmed. I did fail pretty bad though because I don't have the Fellowship tapestry in the HoM for that character yet! Doh! Looks like it's spider cappin time with one of my other characters that does have what I need HoM-wise.
Lock thread please.

Well, put the Black Moa into your menagerie and have your qualified character get one from there and record it in your HoM.
